A Mothers' Day gift for a woman in Egypt

At the age of 20, when her son was just three months old, Eman lost her husband. Overnight, she became the sole provider for her child, facing the challenge of caring for an infant while also earning a living for the first time in her life.

Living in a rural area along the Nile River, Eman tried working for local farmers. However, this involved commuting alone along remote dirt roads, spending even more time away from her son. There had to be a better way.

Finally, Eman heard that our local partner organization was offering support for women to start “microfarms” at home. She applied and, after an assessment process, was approved! Eman, who chose to focus on poultry farming, received:

  • training on how to raise chickens
  • project management guidance
  • profit calculation instruction
  • a flock of chicks
  • feed for the full production cycle
  • ongoing veterinary support

You can well imagine what a turning point this was in Eman’s life. She was able to generate income, working safely from home, while also caring for her son. She reduced her household expenses because of a ready source of eggs at home—and was able to cover the costs of her small family.

Will you help another mother launch a "microfarm" to support her household?

Thanks to two very generous supporters, the first $10,500 in contributions will be matched!

That means that if you provide two sheep for one aspiring female farmer, another woman will also receive the same thing! The impact of your contribution will be instantly doubled.

Thank you for sharing this Mothers' Day with the mothers of Egypt!
